Don’t Slow Down
Momentum is a funny thing, it is created by stationary events yet its impact is most profound on movement.
When I started to write this blog seriously a few days ago, the only thing I knew for sure was that I needed momentum. In the beginning, momentum above all else is the key to success. Getting that one foot in front of the other and working towards a self-reinforcing circle. Leave your carefully calculated strategies and subtle undermining of the “dominant paradigm” at the door – man up and get your name out there. That’s what I told myself, that’s what I will do.
Why is momentum so crucial? It carries you through the dips, the low points, it makes fumbles first downs and it turns defeats into crushing victories. At its height it becomes something tangible, inevitable. When I played baseball, you could feel your rally gaining speed, you could feel the opposing pitcher starting to crumble mentally, and it was always at that moment that you became most vulnerable.
If you pause, even for a second, to let the other guys realize they’re ahead of you, the game is over. On the other hand, make the other side believe you’ve won, have them already planning their showers and make-up sex with their girlfriends and you will have become shiva, destroyer of worlds.
Sun-Tzu says “Opportunities multiply as they are seized,” now get out there and use what you’ve got to create some momentum.
